The L Word Season Two: I'm Obsessed

“It’s an obsession.”

I’m obsessed with The L Word. I admit it. I started hyperventilating when I received a copy of the Season Two DVD. I was so excited. I couldn’t wait to see the girls again. The months are too long without them.

After a marathon session of four discs, 13 episodes, and numerous Bonus Materials as well as several glasses of wine, few hours of sleep, and my own poorly choreographed karaoke rendition of the theme song, here are my top five DVD highlights.

1. “No other love. Darling, I’m flying.” (Heart)

Bette and Tina, I love you. I love you together. Please stay together, for the sake of baby Angelica, and for the sake of my mental health and well being. The DVD is worth buying just to watch Episode 9 and the Bette/Tina encounter over and over (and over) again. Let’s just say skin meets skin. Tina gestures repeatedly, “Touch me here”, and Bette cries, “Oh My God. Oh My F-ing God.” It was nice. Really, really nice.

2. Dana, Alice, and Shane are the Lesbian equivalent of Larry, Mo and Curly

Erin Daniels, Leisha Hailey, and Katherine Moennig provide hilarious commentary for Episode 10, “Land Ahoy.” They have a great time mocking Betty, the individual band members and their all too frequent cameo appearances as well as the all too memorable “please get it out of my head” theme song. Note to Ilene, these three are comedic gold. Keep that in mind for Season Three. I found myself snorting out loud on numerous occasions.

3. Can Best Friends Fall in Love and Stay Together?

Dana and Alice, you clearly adore one another. Can’t you make it work? Bravo to Leisha Hailey and Erin Daniels for sharing the world of sex toys. Thanks to you I have a few more items on my list of things I’d like to try. The Bonus Material, L Word Girls on the Record, features a fantastic interview with the two actresses, in which they discuss their many kissing scenes. They were gushing. Or was it me?

4. Shane and Carmen.

Hot, Hot, Hot. Did Shane actually say, “I love you”? Let’s rewind.
